Artist Statement

My work is divided between three predominant practices: design, painting and illustration. I use traditional methods such as painting, collage and drawing. My design practice is geared towards book design, textiles, design for print with an emphasis on typography and layout design. My illustrations are focused on lifestyle, bookshops and food & drink. My paintings have formal concerns related to color, balance, repetition and pattern. At the heart of all these practices is an interest in materiality, process old fashioned hard work. My interest in the literary world and storytelling has its foundation in my ongoing role as a bookseller, I use this role to facilitate my artistic practice. I also travel extensively; each trip serves as inspiration for paintings and illustrations work
